Karnataka Government Announces ₹50,000 Cash Reward for SSLC Toppers
State replaces laptops with direct cash incentives for top-performing SSLC students from 2024–25.

The Karnataka government has decided to award cash incentives instead of laptops to students who top the SSLC (Class 10) examinations. Under the revised scheme, the top three rank-holders from each district will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000.
According to an official government order, the incentive amount will be transferred directly to the students’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The new policy will be implemented from the 2024–25 academic year and is expected to benefit a total of 758 students across the state.
The funds will be disbursed through the State Scholarship Portal, and only bank accounts linked with the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar numbers will be eligible to receive the amount.
The government has earmarked around ₹3.25 crore for this initiative, which falls under the “Quality Assurance and Student Motivation Initiative” programme. Officials said the move aims to encourage academic excellence and provide students with greater flexibility in using the incentive to support their education.
