Karnataka Emerging as a Space Tech Powerhouse, Driving Global Investments: Minister Priyank Kharge
State playing a leading role in space science, governance reforms, and satellite-based services, says IT & BT Minister at Bengaluru workshop.
Bengaluru – Karnataka is rapidly establishing itself as a national leader in space technology, governance reforms, and service-based satellite applications, according to State IT and Biotechnology Minister Priyank Kharge.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day “Karnataka Space” workshop organized by the Department of IT & BT in Bengaluru on Thursday, Kharge highlighted Karnataka’s growing prominence in the global space sector.
“The global space industry has crossed $400 billion in investments, and Karnataka holds a significant share in this booming sector,” the minister stated. He emphasized the state’s vital role, thanks to being home to key national research institutions like ISRO and DRDO, which have propelled India’s progress in both space science and defense technology.
Kharge also recalled Karnataka’s pioneering initiatives in space application. “We were among the first states in India to establish a Remote Sensing Centre, using satellite data for agricultural planning, urban development, water resource management, and disaster response,” he noted.
He stressed that the state government is actively working to integrate space technology into public services and governance systems, aiming to bring a scientific approach to developmental planning.
The workshop also saw participation from senior officials and industry experts, including Dr. N. Manjula, Secretary of IT & BT Department, and Rahul Sharanappa Sankannavar, Managing Director of Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS).
