Bengaluru (Fikrokhabar News Desk): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on Saturday appealed to the public to take part in the ongoing socio-economic and educational survey being conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes. The survey, he said, is essential to ensuring social justice and building a more equitable future for coming generations.

Speaking at the official launch of the survey in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area, Shivakumar said, “The survey has begun in GBA today. It was conducted at my own residence this morning, and I have submitted all the required details. I urge all communities to do the same.”

Acknowledging concerns about the length and complexity of the 60-question survey, the Deputy CM admitted, “Yes, the questionnaire needs simplification. People in urban areas have limited patience. But the data we collect will be vital for policymaking.”

He also addressed privacy-related concerns, especially regarding personal questions. “The court has ruled that certain questions are not mandatory. Responding to them is optional. I have instructed enumerators to be sensitive, particularly in cities like Bengaluru, while collecting information,” he assured.

Shivakumar further stated that educating the public about the importance of the survey is a key priority. “We are reaching out to people and explaining the significance of their participation. It’s our duty, and we are committed to it,” he said.

On technical issues such as server problems, he confirmed that steps are being taken to resolve them promptly. “There’s also an option to participate online, which people can use if needed,” he added.

The massive data-gathering effort—set to run until October 7—aims to cover nearly seven crore people in two crore households across Karnataka. About 1.75 lakh enumerators, mainly government school teachers, have been deployed for the ₹420 crore survey.

Officials have described the exercise as “scientific” and said the data collected will help shape future welfare policies, especially those related to backward and marginalised communities.
