Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has raised questions about terror attacks occurring during election periods in the country, triggering a heated political debate with the opposition BJP.

On Wednesday, Siddaramaiah took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and asked, “What is the reason for terrorist attacks in the country during elections?” He also shared media reports covering his statement on recent incidents.

The Chief Minister’s comments came after a blast in Delhi, which happened just before the second and final phase of voting in Bihar concluded on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in Mysuru a day earlier, Siddaramaiah had said that bomb blasts should not happen in the country and that innocent lives had been lost. He pointed out that the incident occurred during election time and needed proper investigation. When asked about its potential impact, he suggested the blast could affect the Bihar polls negatively for the BJP.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, calling him the “most incompetent Home Minister” since independence. He demanded Shah’s resignation and blamed the incident on intelligence failure.

The statements did not sit well with the BJP. State party President B Y Vijayendra strongly condemned the remarks, calling them “irresponsible, insensitive, and low-level politics.”

Vijayendra emphasized that while the investigation into the blast was still ongoing, such statements by Congress leaders were not just condemnable but deeply concerning. He said it was a tragedy that Congress was playing politics during a sensitive time when the nation should stand united.

In a social media post, the BJP leader accused the Congress party of using national security issues, civilian deaths, and soldiers’ sacrifices as political tools. He reminded people that even after the 2019 Pulwama attack, Congress leaders had made statements that “helped Pakistan’s propaganda.”

Vijayendra called Siddaramaiah’s latest statement a continuation of Congress’s “anti-national legacy” and demanded an immediate withdrawal. He warned that just like Bihar voters, the people of Karnataka would also respond strongly to such politics.

“This is not about party politics. For true patriots, the country always comes first,” the BJP leader said.

The political exchange has added another layer of tension between the ruling Congress in Karnataka and the BJP ahead of ongoing elections in other states.
