The Karnataka government has assured residents that there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders in the state. Food and Civil Supplies Minister K. H. Muniyappa announced that each household will receive one LPG cylinder per month to ensure steady supply during the current situation.

The minister made the statement in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Wednesday while responding to a question raised by Congress MLA H. D. Ranganath during Zero Hour.

Muniyappa said the government has closely reviewed the supply situation after instructions from the Chief Minister. He noted that meetings were held with officials from oil companies to assess stock levels and distribution plans.

“Even during the ongoing war situation, domestic LPG cylinders will continue to be available. Officials have confirmed that there is sufficient stock,” the minister said.

He explained that around 20–30 percent of the country’s LPG production comes from domestic sources, while the remaining supply is imported. According to him, ten Indian tankers carrying LPG are currently on their way to ensure continued supply.

Until the new shipments arrive, the government has decided that a 14-kg LPG cylinder will be supplied once a month to households consisting of four to five members.

The minister also warned the public against attempting to obtain extra cylinders or selling LPG illegally. “This is a time of crisis. People should not try to register for additional cylinders. Strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal sale or misuse,” he said.

Muniyappa added that the central government has invoked the Essential Supplies Monitoring Act (ESMA) to prevent hoarding and ensure fair distribution of essential commodities.

To keep the situation under control, the state government will conduct weekly review meetings to monitor LPG supply and update the Chief Minister regularly. He also urged citizens to use cooking gas carefully and avoid unnecessary consumption.

Regarding commercial supply, the minister said LPG distribution will be prioritised for essential services such as hospitals, schools, and hostels.

“Hotels, wedding halls, and convention centres may face some inconvenience, but they must cooperate during this serious national situation,” he said, adding that hoarding cylinders will not be tolerated.
