Alkal: At least 15 people, including five children and four women, were injured when a rabid dog went on a biting spree in the Alkal area of Karnataka on Monday.

A senior health department official said that all the victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they received anti-rabies vaccines as part of emergency treatment.

According to officials, five seriously injured victims were later shifted to the district hospital for advanced medical care. Among them, the condition of two young girls is reported to be critical.

Following the incident, municipal authorities were directed to capture the dog and prevent further attacks. Residents, alarmed by the event, have kept their children indoors, while many elderly people have also stopped going out for walks as a precaution.

Health and municipal teams worked through the night to locate the dog. After hours of effort, officials successfully captured the rabid animal early Tuesday morning, bringing relief to the local community.

Citizens have urged the administration to take strong measures to control the growing stray dog population in the town to avoid similar incidents in the future.
