Jeddah–Hyderabad IndiGo Flight Diverted to Mumbai After ‘Human Bomb’ Threat; Aircraft Lands Safely
An email warning of a “human bomb” on IndiGo flight 6E 68 prompted emergency diversion and security checks; no threat found.

Mumbai/Hyderabad: An IndiGo flight from Jeddah to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai early Saturday morning after the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, received an email warning that a “human bomb” was on board the aircraft, police officials confirmed.
The flight — IndiGo 6E 68 (VT-IPW, Airbus A20N) — departed from Jeddah at 1:20 a.m. (Saudi time) and was scheduled to land in Hyderabad. However, following the security alert, it was rerouted and landed safely in Mumbai at 8:25 a.m. (IST).
According to police, RGIA authorities received the threatening email at around 5:30 a.m., warning them to “prevent landing of IndiGo flight in Hyderabad.” The message also claimed that “LTTE-ISI operatives” were planning a “1984 Madras Airport-style” explosion.
Upon receiving the alert, all relevant security agencies were immediately informed, and the flight was diverted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, where it underwent thorough security checks. Officials confirmed that no suspicious object or threat was found after inspection.
A police official said, “All security checks were completed and no issue was found. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the email.”
In a statement, IndiGo Airlines confirmed the incident, saying:
“A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1. Following standard protocol, the flight was diverted to Mumbai. The airline immediately informed relevant authorities and fully cooperated during the security checks.”
The airline added that it worked to minimise inconvenience for passengers, providing refreshments and regular updates during the delay.
After being cleared by security teams, the aircraft departed Mumbai at 3:10 p.m. and landed safely at Hyderabad’s RGIA at 4:05 p.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the origin of the threat email and the motive behind the hoax message.
