Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Mourns Death of 42 Umrah Pilgrims in Madinah Bus Accident
Organization's chief urges Indian government to help bereaved families and ensure swift repatriation of bodies

New Delhi, November 17, 2025: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has expressed deep grief over the tragic bus accident near Madinah that killed 42 Umrah pilgrims, most of whom were from Hyderabad.
The Jamat’s national president, Syed Saadatullah Husaini, offered condolences to the families of the victims in a statement issued on Monday. He described the incident as a “painful tragedy” that has left the community in shock.
“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking bus accident near Madinah. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” Husaini said.
The pilgrims were on a sacred journey to perform Umrah when the accident occurred. Husaini emphasized the spiritual significance of their journey, noting that they were fulfilling one of Islam’s most important religious duties.
Quoting a Hadith, he said, “The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that those who perform Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. We pray that Allah grants them the status of martyrdom and the highest place in paradise.”
The JIH chief also prayed for patience and strength for the families dealing with this sudden loss.
In his statement, Husaini made an urgent appeal to the Indian government. He requested immediate action on three key matters: ensuring the quick return of the deceased pilgrims’ bodies to India, providing complete medical treatment to the injured, and extending all possible support to the affected families.
The tragedy has particularly hit the Hyderabad community hard, as the majority of the victims belonged to the city. Local organizations and community members have been offering support to the grieving families.
The accident highlights the risks faced by pilgrims traveling to holy sites, and has prompted calls for better safety measures for religious travelers.
