Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Karnataka Launches ‘Umeed Portal Help Desk’ for Online Registration of Waqf Properties
The initiative aims to simplify the registration process and strengthen the protection and transparency of Waqf properties across the state.

Bengaluru: In a major step toward protecting Waqf properties and streamlining their registration, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka has launched an ‘Umeed Portal Waqf Registration Help Desk’ at its state headquarters Shanti Sadan in Bengaluru.
The new help desk will guide applicants through the online registration process — including document preparation, submission, and other technical requirements. The initiative was formally inaugurated by Karnataka Waqf Board CEO, Mr. Muazuddin, on October 23.
The event was attended by several key figures, including Dr. Mohammad Saad Belgami (Ameer-e-Halqa), Mohammad Yusuf Kanni (Secretary), Maulana Waheeduddin Khan Umri Madani, Maulana Labeed Shafai, Mohammad Bilal (Assistant Secretary), Mohammad Markada (PRO), Mohammad Peer Saheb Latgiri, Masood Abdul Qadir (Convener, Muslim United Front), and Maulana Hafiz Mufti Abdul Quddus, Imam and Khatib of Aala Masjid, Bengaluru.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Saad Belgami said, “Waqf is a sacred trust, and safeguarding it is our collective responsibility. Now that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has issued clear instructions, all trustees of mosques, dargahs, imambaras, and graveyards should begin uploading their documents on the Umeed Portal without delay.”
As per the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s recent decision, all Waqf properties in India must be uploaded to the Umeed Portal — a government platform launched in June 2025 — within six months. The current deadline ends on December 5.
Initially, due to widespread protests against the Waqf Bill 2025, the Board had advised delaying uploads. However, following an interim court order and expert consultations, the Board has now permitted the process to continue while also seeking an extension of the deadline through the Supreme Court, which is set to hear the matter on October 28.
During the event, Mr. Muazuddin, CEO of the Karnataka Waqf Board, highlighted that the digital registration of properties on the Umeed Portal will help ensure their long-term protection. “Once registered, the risk of encroachment or ownership disputes will be eliminated. The Board will verify the uploaded documents in the first phase and confirm their authenticity in the second,” he explained.
He further clarified that under the new Waqf Bill, the category of “Waqf by user” has been removed. However, properties previously registered under this classification will retain their status once their records are uploaded. Help desks have now been established at every district Waqf office in Karnataka to assist local trustees with the uploading process.
Dr. Belgami also announced that a statewide network of Waqf volunteers is being formed to support the initiative and ensure that no property remains unregistered due to technical or administrative hurdles.
At a similar event held in Delhi on October 14, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind President Syed Sadatullah Husaini had clarified, “Uploading documents on the Umeed Portal does not mean accepting the Waqf Bill 2025. Our opposition to the bill, under the leadership of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, will continue until it is withdrawn.”
The initiative by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka has been widely appreciated as a timely and proactive move to promote transparency, accountability, and digital management of Waqf assets across the state.
