Bhatkal: A strong nation is built on the foundation of strong families. If the family unit is secure, the society and the state naturally become stronger. These views were expressed by Bhatkal Tehsildar, Mr. Nagendra Kolshetty.

He was speaking at the “Quran Pravachan” (Quranic Discourse) program held under the theme “Khushhaal Khandan, Mazboot Samaj” (Happy Family, Strong Society), organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bhatkal.

Gen Z and the “Reels Culture” Referencing the wisdom of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Mr. Kolshetty highlighted the vital role of the family system in the country’s progress. He expressed concern over modern lifestyles, noting that the new generation (Gen Z) is losing patience.

He pointed out that the “Reels culture” on social media is growing rapidly. He advised the youth to understand that real success takes time and that not everything in life can be achieved instantly.

Values in the Age of AI Delivering the keynote address, Muhammad Kunhi, State Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Karnataka, described the family as a sacred system created by the Almighty, not just a social structure. He warned that if family values crumble, the entire society falls apart.

Mr. Kunhi emphasized that even in this era of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI), core values like truth, justice, kindness, and self-control must never change. He expressed regret that in today’s machine-like life, relationships are becoming business-like.

He urged parents not to focus only on making their children successful professionals but to also teach them love, respect, and tolerance at home.

Big Houses, Small Hearts Gangadhar Naik, President of the Bhatkal Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishad, made a thought-provoking observation. He remarked that while modern houses are getting bigger, people’s hearts are getting smaller.

“Humans have advanced enough to split the atom, but they have failed to break their own ego,” Naik said. He added that religion should be used to broaden our perspectives, not to build walls between people.

A Call for Unity Special guest Narasimha Adi, President of the District Working Journalists Association, praised Bhatkal for returning to its traditional culture of humanity and religious harmony. Congress leader Rama Moger also recalled the town’s thousand-year-old tradition of unity.

Other speakers, including retired Professor R.S. Naik, labor leader G.N. Revankar, Inayatullah Shahbandri, and Suresh Pujari, also spoke on the importance of unity in diversity.

The event began with a welcome address by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Bhatkal President, Maulana Syed Zubair SM. The program was hosted by journalist M.R. Manvi, and concluded with a vote of thanks by the Quran Pravachan convener, Engineer Nazir Qazi.
