Israeli Defence Minister Threatens to Raise Flag Over Yemen’s Sanaa

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz on Friday threatened to assassinate Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Houthi movement, and to raise Israel’s national flag over the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
In a statement posted on X, Katz directly warned the Houthi leader:
“Abdul Malik al-Houthi, your turn is coming. You will be sent to meet your government and all members of the cowardly ‘axis of evil’ waiting in the depths of hell.”
He further declared that the Houthi flag “will be replaced by Israel’s blue-and-white flag.”
This threat comes in the wake of an Israeli airstrike on August 28 that killed 12 senior Houthi officials, including the group’s Prime Minister Ahmed Ghalib al-Rahawi and several ministers.
The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have carried out missile and drone attacks on Israel, including on ships linked to or heading towards the country. The group says these attacks are part of its retaliation for Israel’s war on Gaza, which they describe as a genocidal campaign.
According to Palestinian health officials, the Israeli assault on Gaza has left more than 65,100 Palestinians dead, most of them women and children. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, while famine has so far claimed the lives of at least 435 people, including 147 children.
