Israel Plans Big Changes to Take More Land in West Bank
New Israeli rules make it easier for settlers to buy Palestinian land and build in more areas, even where Palestinians have control.

Israelโs government has approved new steps to increase Israeli settlements and strengthen control in the occupied West Bank. These changes are seen as a major move to take more Palestinian land.
The new rules include:
- Cancelling an old law that stopped Palestinian land from being sold to Jewish Israelis.
- Making land ownership records public, so settlers can find and contact Palestinian owners easily.
- Giving Israeli authorities power to approve construction in parts of Hebron, even in areas that were under Palestinian control.
This means Israeli settlers will find it much easier to buy land and build more settlements across the West Bank. Israel will also now be able to carry out demolitions and enforce rules in areas that were run by the Palestinian Authority.
Israeli ministers said the changes โend discrimination against settlersโ and โstrengthen the Israeli presenceโ in the West Bank.
Palestinians say these moves are illegal under international law and make it almost impossible to create a future Palestinian state.
