Israel Launches Major Ground Operation in Gaza City

Israel has begun the main phase of a ground operation to seize control of Gaza City, an Israeli military official confirmed on Tuesday.
The operation follows a meeting in Jerusalem between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who reiterated Washington’s support for Israel’s military objectives.
According to the military official, the offensive is currently in its early stages. Troops are moving deeper into Gaza City, and more forces will be gradually deployed. About 40 percent of the city’s residents have reportedly fled south ahead of the advance.
Israel believes thousands of Hamas fighters remain in Gaza City. “We will continue our operations for as long as necessary,” the official said. He added that the military aims to move quickly but carefully to protect civilians and hostages believed to be held in the city.
The official also said Israel was increasing humanitarian support, especially in southern Gaza, while denying a United Nations report that accused the country of committing “genocide” in the enclave.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Netanyahu described the campaign as a “significant operation” during remarks in court, stressing that Israel’s goal remains to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza.
