Israeli policies in the occupied West Bank are systematically displacing thousands of Palestinians through home demolitions and escalating settler violence, according to recent reports from human rights organizations.

A Human Rights Watch report revealed that 32,000 Palestinians have been expelled from three refugee camps this year alone—the largest mass displacement in the West Bank since 1967. Meanwhile, the UN documented over 1,000 Palestinians displaced from Area C in November, with Israel citing lack of permits—documents that are “almost impossible” for Palestinians to obtain.

The displacement crisis coincides with a dramatic surge in settler violence. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs recorded over 260 attacks in October, averaging eight incidents daily—the highest rate since data collection began in 2006.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has openly stated his intention to establish Israeli sovereignty in the West Bank, announcing new settlements designed to “bury the idea of a Palestinian state.” More than 700,000 Israelis now live in illegal settlements across occupied territory.

Yuli Novak, executive director of Israeli rights group B’Tselem, condemned the situation: “We are witnessing the total abandonment of Palestinian lives. The international community must put an end to Israel’s impunity and hold those responsible for crimes against the Palestinian people to account.”

The Palestinian Farmers’ Union characterized the settler violence during olive harvest season as “deliberate efforts to undermine Palestinian rural life,” part of what many Palestinians see as a systematic campaign to make their existence unsustainable.
