IRCTC New User Registrations Drop Sharply After Crackdown on Fake IDs
Daily new accounts fall from nearly one lakh to 5,000 as Railways tighten identity verification.

New Delhi: The number of new user accounts being created daily on the IRCTC website has dropped significantly following a major crackdown on fake IDs, railway officials said on Saturday. With the introduction of a stricter identity verification system, daily new registrations have come down to around 5,000 from nearly one lakh earlier.
According to a press note, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the action taken by Indian Railways against ticket bookings made through fake identities has started showing positive results. Before the new system was implemented, almost one lakh new user IDs were being created every day.
Officials said the new measures have helped Railways deactivate as many as 3.03 crore fake IRCTC accounts. In addition, around 2.7 crore user IDs have either been temporarily suspended or identified for suspension due to suspicious activities.
The Railway Minister has directed officials to further strengthen the ticketing system so that genuine passengers can easily book tickets using valid and authentic user IDs. The goal, he said, is to make the booking process fair and accessible to all real travellers.
Meanwhile, the minister has also instructed officials to introduce local and regional cuisine on Vande Bharat trains. Officials said serving food that reflects the culture and taste of the regions the trains pass through will greatly improve the passenger experience. This initiative will be gradually extended to other trains in the future.
