This leadership change comes shortly after the unexpected departure of former CEO Pieter Elbers, marking a significant transition period for the airline as it aims to expand its operations and strengthen its market position.

Widely known in the aviation world as Willie, Walsh brings decades of experience to the role. He has previously led British Airways as CEO and also headed International Airlines Group, which operates major carriers such as Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling.

Welcoming the appointment, IndiGo Managing Director Rahul Bhatia described Walsh as a highly respected leader with a strong track record in building customer focused airlines. He said Walsh’s global outlook, operational expertise, and deep understanding of the aviation industry make him well suited to guide IndiGo during its next phase of growth.
