An IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Bagdogra was forced to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Sunday, January 18, 2026, after a bomb threat was discovered on board. The incident caused panic among passengers as security agencies rushed to respond.

Flight 6E-6650 was diverted to Lucknow as a safety measure after crew members found a threatening message written by hand on tissue paper in one of the aircraft’s toilets. The note claimed there was a bomb on the plane.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajnish Verma told reporters that security agencies were immediately alerted once the threat was reported. “A complete search operation of the aircraft was started right away,” he said.

According to ACP Verma, there were 238 people on board the flight, including pilots and crew members. The aircraft was safely brought down at Lucknow airport following standard emergency procedures.

IndiGo Airlines released an official statement saying, “On January 18, 2026, flight 6E-6650 operating from Delhi to Bagdogra was diverted to Lucknow due to a security concern. Following security protocols, relevant authorities were immediately informed, and we are providing full cooperation during the search process.”

After landing at Lucknow airport, the plane was moved to an isolated area. Teams from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), bomb disposal squad, and other security agencies conducted a thorough search of the aircraft and all luggage. All passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and went through complete security checks.

Officials said the Air Traffic Control (ATC) received information about the bomb threat at around 8:46 AM. The flight made a safe landing at Lucknow airport at approximately 9:17 AM.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify who wrote the threatening message and determine whether it was a hoax or a serious threat. No explosives have been reported found so far.
