India Issues Emergency Helpline Numbers for Citizens in Nepal Amid Political Unrest

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has released emergency contact numbers for Indian nationals in Nepal, following a wave of violent protests and the resignation of Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
In an official message posted on social media platform X, the Embassy urged Indian citizens in Nepal to reach out for help if they are in danger or need support. The emergency helpline numbers provided are:
- +977 – 980 860 2881
- +977 – 981 032 6134
The situation in Nepal has rapidly deteriorated after massive anti-government demonstrations led to Prime Minister Oli stepping down from his position. Protesters stormed and vandalised key locations, including private homes of top political leaders and the Parliament building. Even the residence of Nepal’s President, Ramchandra Paudel, was reportedly attacked.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised all Indian citizens currently in Nepal to remain indoors, avoid public places, and stay alert. The MEA has also recommended postponing any non-essential travel to Nepal until the situation stabilizes.
“Indian nationals are urged to follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities and remain in close contact with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu,” the ministry said in a statement.
Due to the unrest, several flights between India and Nepal were cancelled. Air India cancelled four out of its six daily flights between Delhi and Kathmandu on Tuesday. Budget carrier IndiGo and Nepal Airlines also suspended their services, as Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport was temporarily shut down.
