Hubballi: India has achieved a new milestone in railway infrastructure, with the Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction in Karnataka being officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest railway platform. Measuring an astonishing 1,507 metres, the platform showcases India’s growing engineering and transport capabilities.
The platform’s exceptional length enables two long trains to halt at the same time without affecting each other’s operations a design that improves both passenger convenience and operational efficiency.
The construction was part of the South Western Railway’s yard remodelling project, aimed at modernising one of India’s busiest and most strategically located junctions. Hubballi serves as a vital link connecting major routes to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Goa, and Hyderabad.
Built at a cost of several crores of rupees, the platform is longer than an Olympic athletics track and features upgraded facilities such as better passenger amenities and advanced train-handling systems. These improvements are expected to make train arrivals and departures smoother and more punctual.
Officials say this record-breaking development reflects the Indian Railways’ broader push toward creating a modern, high-capacity rail network. The expansion at Hubballi is designed to ease congestion, increase capacity, and enable the simultaneous handling of longer trains across southern and western India.
