Bengaluru, Aug 23 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of widespread heavy rainfall across Karnataka until August 30, affecting coastal, Malnad, and interior districts. The IMD has predicted that while several regions are already receiving persistent rainfall, the state is likely to face widespread showers for the next six days.

Till August 25, coastal and Malnad districts are expected to experience scattered to widespread moderate rainfall, with interior districts seeing light, isolated showers. From August 26, rainfall is expected to intensify, particularly in coastal and Malnad regions. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are likely to experience heavy rainfall on August 26, while Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Yadgir may see thunderstorms accompanied by wind speeds of 40–50 km/h.

The IMD also reported that Dharwad, Gadag, Davanagere, Haveri, and Uttara Kannada have already witnessed significant rainfall, leading to damage to houses and agricultural lands.

The continuous rains in Maharashtra have worsened the flood situation in Belagavi, particularly in Chikkodi, where overflowing reservoirs have submerged bridges and disrupted daily life. Residents near riverbanks have been advised to stay alert. Many families, along with their livestock, have begun moving to safer locations due to the flood threat.

As the rains continue, authorities are urging people to remain cautious and stay updated with weather advisories.
