Heavy Rains Forecast for Uttara Kannada, Bhatkal; Brief Dry Spell Before Strong Monsoon Return on Aug 26

BHATKAL/KARWAR: Residents in Bhatkal and across the Uttara Kannada district should brace for a day of heavy rainfall, which will be followed by a brief dry spell before the monsoon returns with renewed force next week, according to a detailed forecast issued by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
The report, released on the evening of August 20th, specifically indicates that the coastal belt, including Uttara Kannada, is likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy downpours today. Weather maps for August 20th show a concentration of intense rainfall directly over the district, signaling a high alert for residents in low-lying areas and for the fishing community.
Following today’s wet conditions, a significant change is on the horizon. A much-needed break from the rain is expected from Thursday, August 21st, to Monday, August 25th. During this five-day window, rainfall intensity is predicted to decrease sharply across the district, leading to lighter showers or even dry conditions.
However, this respite will be temporary. The monsoon is forecast to make a powerful comeback beginning Tuesday, August 26th. The weather models show a strong revival of rainy conditions, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected to lash the Uttara Kannada coast once again. This renewed spell of intense rain is likely to continue through August 27th before gradually easing.
Local authorities and residents are advised to stay updated on weather advisories, particularly in preparation for the return of heavy rains late next week.
