The recent Israeli airstrike on Qatar has sparked unprecedented unity among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as they condemn the attack as a flagrant violation of sovereignty and international law. Leaders from across the Gulf region have expressed strong support for Qatar, denouncing Israel’s actions and calling for de-escalation and respect for diplomatic norms.

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni affirmed her country’s opposition to any escalation that could worsen the Middle East crisis, expressing sincere solidarity with Qatar and backing efforts to end the war in Gaza. Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry labeled the strike on Doha as unacceptable, emphasizing the violation of Qatar’s territorial integrity.

Portugal also condemned the airstrikes, underscoring the need for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages while reaffirming the two-state solution as central to lasting peace. Belgium echoed these sentiments, condemning the violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and stressing that a military solution is not viable.

The growing solidarity among Gulf states marks a significant shift, showcasing their collective readiness to resist violations against their territories. Abu Dhabi’s leadership has been particularly vocal in its condemnation and is reported to be lobbying the U.S. to prevent further Israeli aggressions in the region.

This united response comes amid rising concerns that Israel’s unchecked military actions, often supported or tacitly approved by the U.S., risk destabilizing the entire Gulf and wider Middle East. Gulf nations appear increasingly determined to safeguard their sovereignty and regional stability, potentially reconsidering diplomatic ties with Israel under the Abraham Accords.
