Gold and Cash Worth ₹4.8 Lakh Stolen from Passenger on KSRTC Bus in Mangaluru
Jewellery and cash go missing from a trolley bag shortly after a KSRTC bus left Mangaluru for Bengaluru.

Mangaluru: Gold jewellery and cash valued at around ₹4.8 lakh were reportedly stolen from a passenger travelling on a KSRTC bus from Mangaluru to Bengaluru.
According to a complaint filed by Padmaja, she and her relatives were staying at a lodge in Mangaluru. On the morning of January 23, Padmaja and her relative Leela hired an autorickshaw at around 8 am and visited several temples in and around the city, including Polali, Someshwara, Venkateshwara, Koragajja and Kadri Manjunatha temples. They were carrying gold jewellery in a vanity bag during the visits.
Later in the evening, while preparing to return to their hometown, the family transferred the jewellery from the vanity bag into a trolley bag. They then checked out of the lodge and reached Platform No. 5 at the KSRTC bus stand to board a Bengaluru-bound bus.
After boarding the bus, the trolley bag was kept inside the cabin. However, shortly after the bus departed at around 7.15 pm, Padmaja’s husband noticed that the trolley bag was missing.
The family immediately searched the bus and later checked the KSRTC bus stand and nearby areas, but the bag could not be found.
The stolen trolley bag reportedly contained ₹20,000 in cash and gold ornaments weighing about 45 grams. The jewellery included two gold bangles weighing 18 grams, a gold chain weighing 18 grams, a gold necklace weighing 6 grams and a gold ring weighing 3 grams. The bag also contained earphones, a mobile charger and two pen drives.
The total value of the stolen items has been estimated at ₹4.8 lakh. The complainant stated that there was a delay in filing the complaint at the Barke police station as the family first tried extensively to trace the missing belongings on their own. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
