Gehlot Accuses Election Commission of Ignoring Questions on Alleged ‘Vote Theft’ in Haryana
Congress leader says EC acting in favour of BJP; calls demand for clarifications essential for safeguarding democracy.

The Congress on Saturday intensified its criticism of the Election Commission (EC), with senior leader Ashok Gehlot alleging that the poll body has failed to respond to Rahul Gandhi’s concerns about alleged “vote theft” in the Haryana elections.
In a post on X, Gehlot said the BJP — which he claimed “fell short of the 272-seat mark after being caught in the act of theft” — had now gathered “272 people to sign a letter against Rahul Gandhi to defend the Election Commission.” He described the development as “unfortunate,” saying many of those who signed had long careers in the bureaucracy, judiciary, or armed forces and may have acted under pressure.
Gehlot further alleged that the Election Commission was “working entirely in favour of the BJP and the NDA.” He pointed to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states, saying the exercise was being carried out “in haste” even though related cases are pending before the Supreme Court.
He added that Rahul Gandhi was raising these issues to protect democratic institutions. “Those who wish to preserve democracy should be asking the Election Commission for factual clarification on vote theft, not defending it,” Gehlot said.
