In a powerful Friday sermon delivered at the Jamia Masjid in Bhatkal, Moulana Abdul Khateeb Nadwi issued a stern warning against the dangers of intoxicants, including drugs and alcohol, labeling them a “conspiracy” to destroy Muslim youth and society.

The central theme of the sermon was the protection of the mind, or ‘Aql’, which Islam regards as a fundamental gift from God. The scholar stated that every intoxicant—whether in the form of alcohol, pills, cigarettes, or modern drugs disguised as chocolates or sweets—is strictly forbidden (Haram) in Islam because it clouds this divine gift.

Key Points from the Sermon:

  • Destruction of Faith and Society: The Maulana explained that intoxicants destroy an individual’s faith, make them neglect prayers, and erase their moral compass. He warned that they lead to family disputes, social hatred, and a loss of shame and honor, effectively “hollowing out” a community from within.
  • A “Satanic” Plot: He described the proliferation of intoxicants in Muslim societies as a deliberate “conspiracy by enemies” to weaken the community. The goal, he said, is to destroy the youth’s ambition, courage, and potential for progress so they cannot stand up to challenges.
  • A Collective Responsibility: The sermon called upon everyone, including community leaders, parents, and the youth, to be vigilant. He urged people to not only protect themselves and their families but also to actively safeguard their neighborhoods and society at large from this spreading menace.

The sermon concluded with a prayer for the health of the community’s youth and a call for collective effort to build a pure, strong, and conscious society free from the scourge of intoxicants.
