Friday Sermon Highlights From Al-Masjid An-Nabawi Sheikh Dr. Hussein Al-Sheikh emphasizes the centrality of “La Ilaha Illa Allah” in faith and practice

Madinah: In his recent Friday sermon at Al-Masjid An-Nabawi, Sheikh Dr. Hussein bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, Imam and Khateeb of the Prophet’s Mosque, highlighted that the foundation of eternal success lies in complete servitude to Allah — in belief, speech, and action.
He explained that the declaration “La Ilaha Illa Allah” (There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah) is the key to eternal happiness, the cornerstone of the religion, and the source from which all other acts of worship and obligations stem. It embodies piety, truth, and the message conveyed by Allah through His Prophets.
Sheikh Al-Sheikh emphasized that every believer must hold firm conviction in this declaration, recognizing that nothing besides Allah deserves worship. True faith requires aligning the heart, tongue, and deeds with this truth, fulfilling Allah’s commands, obeying His Messenger, and submitting with love, humility, and reverence, while hoping for His mercy and seeking His pleasure.
He warned that uttering this phrase while practicing actions contrary to its meaning — such as invoking the dead or asking them for help — contradicts its essence and may lead to acts that take one away from true faith.
Genuine adherence to “La Ilaha Illa Allah” requires certainty, free from doubt. The believer must say it with the tongue, believe it in the heart, and demonstrate it through righteous deeds, both inwardly and outwardly. As Allah says in the Qur’an:
“The believers are only those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and then doubt not…” (Surah Al-Hujurat 49:15)
Ultimately, this declaration requires consistency between belief, speech, and action, ensuring that inner conviction aligns with outward practice, according to the guidance of the Qur’an and Sunnah.
