Despite a gradual scale-up in food relief following the ceasefire, supplies entering Gaza are still far below what is required to meet urgent humanitarian needs. World Food Programme spokesperson Abeer Etefa reported that, at current levels, the daily deliveries into Gaza remain significantly short of the agency’s target of 2,000 tonnes per day.

The situation is especially dire because only two crossings—Karem Abu Salem (known as Kerem Shalom in Israel) and Kissufim—are currently operational. No crossings are open into Gaza’s famine-hit north, and the southern Rafah crossing remains shut, limiting the flow of aid even as need grows.

Etefa emphasized that “to be able to get to this scale-up, we have to use every border crossing point right now.” She called for urgent action, warning that until more crossings open, Gaza will continue to face critical shortages in food, medicine, and other vital supplies.

The WFP continues to push for wider humanitarian access so that relief can reach all communities suffering the impacts of blockade and conflict.
