Fishing Boat Capsizes Near Ullal After Engine Failure; ₹1.5 Crore Loss, All Fishermen Safe

Ullal: A fishing boat named Buraaq capsized in the early hours of Monday near the Ullal Sea Ground after its engine failed and the vessel crashed into coastal boulders. All 13 fishermen on board, including the driver, managed to swim safely to shore, averting any casualties.
According to reports, the boat had departed from the Mangaluru fishing harbour at around 2:30 a.m. with a crew of 13. As the vessel neared Ullal, it suddenly experienced engine failure. With no power, the boat drifted uncontrollably and collided with temporary boulders installed along the shore as part of an ongoing sea erosion prevention project.
Boat manager Khalil confirmed that the impact caused the boat to capsize, leading to a total loss. The vessel was completely damaged, and the estimated financial loss—including the boat, fishing nets, and equipment—is around ₹1.5 crore.
Police from Ullal visited the site and conducted an initial inspection following the incident.
