Final-Year Commerce Students Get a Career Reality Check at Anjuman College
A Dubai-based chartered accountant urged B.Com graduates to think for themselves and plan their futures with purpose.

Anjuman Arts, Science and Commerce College in Bhatkal opened its function hall on Sunday to something its final-year B.Com students genuinely needed: an honest, no-nonsense conversation about life after graduation.
The Commerce Career Guidance Programme, held on 29th March 2026, was put together by the college’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and organised by the Students’ Welfare Wing under Prof. Mohammed Ganim, acting on directions from Principal Prof. Mohammed Yusuf Kola. The event kicked off at 11:30 AM with a Quranic recitation by Abdul Badi, followed by an introduction from Mohammed S.A. and smooth hosting by Zulfiqhar Mohtisham.
The star of the session was CA Mohammed Gassan Mohtesham, an auditor currently based in Dubai with Catapult Auditing LLC. Rather than delivering a standard lecture, he turned the room into a lively discussion, pushing students to reflect on where they actually stand and where they genuinely want to go.
His message was direct: stop copying what everyone else is doing. He stressed the value of self-awareness, building a daily routine, and regularly checking in on your own progress. He walked students through how to spot their own strengths and interests, and why developing the ability to keep learning matters far more than simply finishing a degree.
He also made a point that often goes unsaid in academic settings: getting involved in college activities builds real confidence and shapes your personality in ways that textbooks simply cannot.
The session included hands-on exercises that gave students a chance to assess themselves in real time, not just listen and nod.
Student responses reflected how much the session landed. Imran Faqui said it helped him see why self-assessment matters before making any career move. Aash Matta walked away with a clearer picture of his own strengths and a stronger motivation to work on his skills beyond the classroom. Hisham found the advice about carving out an independent path, rather than just going along with the crowd, to be the most powerful takeaway of the day.
The event was attended by several senior members of the college, including Vice Principal Prof. Hibban, Head of Commerce Prof. Manjunath Prabhu, and faculty member Prof. Aftab G.M. The Principal presented the resource person with a memento as a mark of appreciation.
Photographs documenting the event were taken by Abdul Ahad, also a final-year B.Com student.
The programme wrapped up at 1:00 PM with a vote of thanks from Prof. Manjunath Prabhu, who acknowledged the effort put in by everyone involved. In just ninety minutes, the session appeared to give many students something that no exam can test: a sense of direction.
