“Everything Went Black”: Freed Palestinian Prisoner Blinded by Israeli Beating
Mahmoud Abu Foul loses eyesight after severe torture in detention, denied medical care despite broken bones.

A Palestinian man recently released by Israel says he was beaten until he went blind while in detention.
Mahmoud Abu Foul told Al Jazeera that Israeli intelligence officers severely beat him during interrogation. “They asked me to confess to charges that were not true. When I refused, they beat me on the head until I lost consciousness,” he said.
“When I woke up, I tried to open my eyes but I couldn’t see anything. Everything was black… I realized I had gone blind.”
According to Mustafa Barghouti of the Palestinian National Initiative, Abu Foul was subjected to torture and electrical shocks during his detention.
Abu Foul, who already had one leg amputated from a previous attack in Gaza, also suffered broken spine and ribs during the beating. He says he was denied necessary medical treatment, causing his health to worsen further.
