Etihad Airways Plans to Offer 100 Mbps Wi-Fi Across Its Fleet Within Three Years
Etihad Airways is preparing to introduce some of the world’s fastest in-flight internet services, promising speeds of more than 100 megabits per second on all its aircraft within the next two to three years.
Chief Executive Officer Antonoaldo Neves said the Abu Dhabi-based airline is finalizing its choice of technology partners to deliver the new service, which he described as “best in class.”
“The connectivity that we’re going to offer to our customers will redefine the passenger experience. We believe that in the next two to three years every major airline will have to deliver this kind of performance, and we’re determined to be among the leaders,” Neves explained during a media briefing.
The move places Etihad in line with the growing trend of high-speed onboard connectivity. According to industry data, carriers such as Hawaiian Airlines are already achieving strong benchmarks, with download speeds above 160 Mbps.
Alongside this technological upgrade, Etihad is also celebrating its strongest-ever first half-year performance. The airline posted a net profit of Dh1.1 billion during January–June 2025, representing a 32 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Passenger numbers also hit record levels, underscoring strong global demand for travel via Abu Dhabi.
Neves said the airline’s goal is to ensure passengers remain connected just as seamlessly in the air as they are on the ground. “Wi-Fi is no longer a luxury but an essential service,” he added.
The upcoming investment in high-speed inflight internet is seen as a cornerstone of Etihad’s growth strategy, as it strengthens its position as a global travel hub linking Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
