Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar lost his temper with a section of the media on Saturday. He accused reporters of trying to pit him against Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy by using false information to get a sensational reaction.

The incident took place during a press conference regarding the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). During the event, some journalists asked Shivakumar to react to a statement allegedly made by Kumaraswamy.

The reporters claimed that Kumaraswamy had said the Karnataka government would collapse soon and that Shivakumar was secretly in touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Upon hearing this, Shivakumar criticized the Union Minister and even threatened to file a defamation suit.

Fact-Check Reveals the Truth However, moments later, the Deputy CM’s team verified the facts. They discovered that Kumaraswamy had not made those specific comments.

Speaking at a separate event for the JD(S) silver jubilee, Kumaraswamy had actually told his party workers to “remain close to the people” because some “explosive developments” might happen. He did not mention contact with Amit Shah or an immediate government collapse.

Shivakumar’s Warning to Media When Shivakumar realized the reporters had misquoted the Union Minister to provoke him, he became furious. He scolded the journalists for trying to create a conflict without any reason and warned them that they would regret such actions.

Later, the Deputy Chief Minister’s office released a formal statement condemning the behavior of the reporters. The statement requested media outlets not to air the video of his angry reaction.

“The Deputy CM expressed deep dissatisfaction over the media giving wrong information to get a response. One should not create false stories to ask questions. This harms the honor, dignity, and trust of the media,” the statement read.
