NEW DELHI — The death toll from a powerful explosion near the historic Red Fort has risen to 13, with many victims still unidentifiable, authorities said. The blast struck at around 7 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025, when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 stopped at the traffic signal on Subhash Marg, just outside Gate No. 1 of the nearby metro station.

Investigators from the Delhi Police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), forensic teams and dog squads have taken over the site. Early findings suggest the explosion involved detonators, ammonium nitrate and fuel oil. Officials say they are exploring possible links with a terror module in nearby Faridabad, where authorities had recently seized nearly 360 kg of ammonium nitrate.

CCTV footage from more than 100 cameras reportedly shows the car entering the capital via the Badarpur toll booth from Faridabad road early on Monday morning. Investigators have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act.

In response to the incident, the Red Fort Metro Station has been shut and the Red Fort complex itself closed to the public for three days to allow for investigation and security checks. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has placed all major protected sites—including metro hubs, government buildings and airports—on high alert, with extra personnel deployed. Several states including Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir have been put on heightened security footing.

On the political front, the incident has sparked intense scrutiny. Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level review of national security early Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, opposition leaders and social media users are demanding accountability, questioning who controls the Delhi police and national security apparatus.

As the probe continues, authorities say they are not ruling out any angle—whether accidental, criminal or terror-related. For now, the city remains on edge, awaiting more definitive answers.
