Coastal Security Heightened in Karnataka After Delhi Blast
Authorities increase patrols and surveillance along Malpe and Mangaluru coasts following the car explosion at Delhi's Red Fort

A recent car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort has prompted security forces across India to go on high alert. In Karnataka, coastal areas including Malpe and Mangaluru have seen a significant increase in security measures.
Since Monday night, the Coast Guard and coastal police have stepped up their patrols in both deep sea and coastal waters. Special attention is being given to the Malpe port area, where thousands of fishing boats operate every day.
Security teams are now closely monitoring all unidentified vessels in deep waters. Boats arriving from neighboring states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala are having their records carefully checked and verified.
On Tuesday morning, armed coastal security officers launched large-scale inspections of unknown boats in the region. Officials have confirmed that round-the-clock surveillance will continue, including increased night patrols.
The district police department has also tightened security in sensitive areas following instructions from senior officers.
Security Measures Across the Region
Kasaragod District: Police teams conducted thorough searches along the entire coastal area on Tuesday. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were deployed to ensure safety.
Dakshina Kannada District: Following the Delhi incident, police throughout the district, including Mangaluru city, have increased security checks at critical locations.
Enhanced patrols are now in place at:
- Bajpe International Airport
- Railway stations
- KSRTC bus terminals
- Shopping malls and markets
- Fish markets
- Crowded public areas
- Popular tourist destinations
Dog squads and bomb disposal teams are conducting random security checks at these locations. Railway police are using metal detectors to screen passengers and carefully examining all luggage and parcels before they are loaded or unloaded.
Sea Patrols and Public Alert
The Coast Guard has increased its presence at sea. Local fishermen have been asked to report any suspicious boats or unusual objects they spot while at sea.
Additional police officers have been assigned to coastal checkpoints for night duty to maintain continuous surveillance.
Police officials are urging the public to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious persons, unattended bags, or unidentified items to the nearest police station.
Intelligence Concerns
Mangaluru and the surrounding coastal region have been under intelligence watch for potential security threats. Intelligence agencies believe several terror-related activities were planned from this area in the past, including a pressure cooker bomb incident in Mangaluru.
Due to this history, intelligence units are working closely with local police to strengthen surveillance and monitoring across the coastal belt.
