Chikkamagaluru: A resident of Shivapura village in Kadur taluk has allegedly been cheated of ₹1.28 crore after falling victim to an online trading scam promoted through social media.

According to police, the victim came across a trading advertisement named “FYERS” on Facebook and later joined a WhatsApp group titled “F-8FYERS Securities.” The scheme promised high returns, convincing the individual to invest significant amounts over a period of time.

Believing the claims, the victim transferred a total of ₹1,28,10,000 in multiple transactions. However, no returns were received as assured. The fraud came to light only after repeated attempts to withdraw profits failed.

The victim then approached the cyber police and filed a complaint. A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway to trace those behind the scam.

Police have once again urged the public to remain cautious while dealing with online investment offers, especially those circulating on social media platforms, and to verify the authenticity of such schemes before investing.
