Bhatkal (Fikrokhabar News): A rare astronomical event—a total lunar eclipse—is set to occur on the night of September 7 and 8, 2025, lasting an impressive 3 hours and 28 minutes. The eclipse, often referred to as a Blood Moon due to the reddish hue the moon takes on, will be clearly visible across large parts of the world, including India, Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe.

In India, cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru are expected to offer some of the best views of the eclipse. According to astronomers, the event will begin at 9:58 PM and will conclude by 1:26 AM, making it the longest lunar eclipse of the decade.

Lunar Eclipse Prayers in Bhatkal

Religious scholars and Qazis in Bhatkal have announced that Salat al-Khusuf (lunar eclipse prayer) will be held at 10:00 PM in Jama Masjids (Friday mosques) across the town.

The prayer is considered Sunnah (recommended) during a lunar eclipse. According to the Shafi’i school of thought, the prayer is offered in congregation, consisting of two rak‘ahs, with two bowings (ruku‘) and two standings (qiyam) in each rak‘ah—making it slightly different from the regular prayer format.

It is recommended to perform long recitations, extended bowing, and to engage in sincere du‘a (supplication) and seeking forgiveness.

Islamic Perspective on Eclipses

Islam teaches that solar and lunar eclipses are natural signs from Allah, meant to remind people of His power and to turn their attention toward reflection and repentance.

A hadith reported in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim quotes the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as saying:

“The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They are not eclipsed by the death or life of anyone, but Allah uses them to warn His servants.”

This teaching came in response to pre-Islamic superstitions where people believed eclipses were linked to the birth or death of prominent individuals. Islam strongly rejected these beliefs, emphasizing that eclipses are manifestations of divine power, not personal omens.

As this rare event lights up the night sky, it serves as both a spectacle of nature and a moment of spiritual reflection for believers.
