A former BJP legislator from Uttar Pradesh has landed in controversy after making inflammatory remarks at a public gathering. Raghvendra Pratap Singh, who previously represented Domariaganj constituency, allegedly stated that Hindu young men who “bring Muslim girls” would be given jobs.

The statement, captured in a video that went viral on social media, has been widely condemned as promoting kidnapping and forced religious conversion. Singh, who has a history of making anti-Muslim comments, made these remarks during a public meeting where the crowd reportedly applauded his statement.

Political Leaders Demand Action

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national spokesperson Sanjay Singh strongly criticized the remarks, calling them a “direct incitement to crime.” In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he demanded immediate police action against the BJP leader.

“If a leader publicly encourages kidnapping and forced conversion, the law must take its course,” Sanjay Singh wrote. He pointed out what he called a double standard in law enforcement, claiming that while Uttar Pradesh police quickly files cases against Muslims on minor grounds, they turn a blind eye when extremist Hindu leaders incite violence.

“Arrest him immediately, or it will prove hollow the claim that law is equal for all,” he added.

Concerns About Social Impact

Sanjay Singh also raised concerns about the message such statements send to society. “Which Hindu parents would want their son to be honored for kidnapping a girl? Is this the image we want for Hinduism in the world associated with coercion and crime?” he questioned.

He urged civil society and the administration to treat this incident as both a public order issue and a hate crime.

Local human rights advocates have warned that if investigations confirm such a public declaration was made, charges could range from criminal intimidation and kidnapping to hate speech and offenses related to forced religious conversion.

Legal experts suggest that provisions under laws dealing with hate speech and attempts at forced conversion could be applicable in this case.

They have urged the district administration to file an FIR (First Information Report) and provide protection to potential victims.

No Action Yet

Despite the widespread outrage and viral spread of the video, no legal action has been taken against the former MLA so far. The silence from law enforcement agencies has raised questions about accountability and equal application of the law.

The incident has once again brought attention to inflammatory political rhetoric and its potential to incite communal tensions and violence against minority communities.
