BJP Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Bihar Yatra Over Alleged Abusive Remarks Against PM Modi’s Late Mother

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the Congress-led ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, accusing it of encouraging abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother. The party claimed that the yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, had “crossed all limits of decency and political discourse.”
The controversy began after a video went viral on social media, allegedly showing offensive language used against PM Modi’s mother from a stage during the yatra. The clip is said to be from Darbhanga district, where the campaign kicked off on Wednesday. Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav were seen riding motorcycles as part of the rally headed toward Muzaffarpur.
Though the BJP refrained from posting the video on its official social media handles, it pointed to online clips shared by other accounts. News agency PTI noted that it could not independently verify the video’s authenticity.
Several stages had been set up along the yatra route for local leaders to address the public and rally support for the INDIA bloc—a coalition of opposition parties preparing for the upcoming state assembly elections. According to the BJP, some individuals on these platforms used highly objectionable language, targeting the prime minister’s mother in particular.
“This is a new low in Indian politics,” said the BJP in a statement. “Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi are directly responsible for the atmosphere in which such filthy language is being used. Even if they apologize a thousand times, the people of Bihar will not forgive them.”
BJP’s Darbhanga district president, Aditya Narayan Jha ‘Manna’, said party workers have already staged protests by burning effigies of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. He added that a police complaint is being filed to demand an investigation and action against those involved.
In response, a senior Congress leader—speaking on condition of anonymity—said the voices in the video could not be identified and that supporters from several parties were present during the yatra. “It’s not clear who made those remarks,” the leader said.
The INDIA bloc, known as the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, includes the Congress, RJD, Left parties, and Mukesh Sahni’s Vikassheel Insan Party.
