Hundreds of final-year students at Anjuman Arts, Science and Commerce College in Bhatkal got a real taste of the professional world on Thursday, when the college held a full-day Interview Skills Workshop aimed at preparing them for campus placements and careers beyond the classroom.

The workshop was organised by the Students’ Welfare Wing as part of an IQAC initiative, under the guidance of Principal Prof. Mohammed Yusuf Kola. Students from the BA, B.Sc., and B.Com final-year batches attended the programme, which ran from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The session was hosted and coordinated by Prof. Mohammed Ganim, the college’s Students’ Welfare Officer. The programme opened with a recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Abdul Badi Siddiqua, followed by a welcome address from Suraqa Hasan and an introduction to the guest speaker by Umer Ekkeri.

The workshop’s resource person, Prof. Jaikishen Bhat, led students through a series of practical activities and discussions. One of the most engaging parts was a Listening Skills Activity, where students practised responding to interview questions in real time. The exercise helped them identify habits that hurt interview performance, such as interrupting the interviewer, giving off-topic answers, or failing to structure thoughts clearly.

Prof. Bhat also explained how corporate Graduate Trainee Programs work, walking students through stages from orientation and departmental rotation to performance evaluations. He stressed that companies today look beyond degrees and want candidates who are adaptable, well-spoken, and professionally groomed.

A detailed 26-step guide to interview preparation was shared with students, covering everything from researching the company and writing a clear resume to handling situational questions, body language, grooming, and following up after the interview.

As a token of appreciation, the Principal presented a memento to the guest speaker. The programme was formally closed with a Vote of Thanks by Aash Matta.

Documentation was handled by Salim Armaan (videography) and Yusuf Ayaan (photography), both from B.Com Final Year. The Discipline Committee, comprising Amaan Muallim, Zulfiqar Ali, and Imran Faqui, ensured the event ran smoothly throughout.

The workshop was widely appreciated by students and faculty, offering a structured, real-world perspective that is rarely covered in regular college coursework.
