Bhaktal Basketball Team Shines Under Leadership of Mohammad Bazil Ruknuddin
The sports scene in Bhatkal witnessed a historic moment as a newly-formed basketball team, led by young captain Mohammad Bazil, son of Mohammad Shakil Ruknuddin, clinched the district-level championship title at the recent Dasara Games held in Sirsi. The event was organized under the administration of the Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat.
Although basketball is a relatively new field for Bhatkal’s athletes, Bazil took the initiative of bringing together local players, training them, and leading them from the taluk-level competitions all the way to district-level success. This remarkable achievement now paves the way for the team’s participation in state-level tournaments.
What makes this victory even more impressive is that the team was formed voluntarily without the backing of any local sports center or institution. Highlighting the team’s potential, Bazil expressed his confidence that with proper sponsorship support from local groups or organizations, the players could compete not only at the state level but eventually aim for national recognition as well.
