The disciplinary action was taken based on an investigation report submitted by Priyadarshini, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Marathahalli division, on Tuesday.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on October 30 when a woman filed a complaint at Varthur police station. She alleged that her domestic help, 34-year-old Sundari Bibi, originally from West Bengal, had stolen a diamond ring from her home.

Based on the complaint, police registered a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) in the matter.

Bibi, who had been working for a techie couple for three months, was then called to the police station for questioning. She arrived at the station accompanied by her husband.

Once at the station, Bibi was reportedly taken to the first floor where she was allegedly detained and physically assaulted by the three police personnel.

The situation came to light only after a social activist intervened and demanded an explanation from the police about the woman’s treatment. Following the intervention, Bibi was finally released from custody.

After her release, the domestic worker was taken to Bowring Hospital for medical examination. Doctors at the hospital registered a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) documenting her injuries, police confirmed.

The case has raised serious concerns about police conduct and the treatment of individuals in custody, particularly those from vulnerable sections of society.

Further investigation into the matter is expected to continue.
