Bengaluru Metro Fares to Increase from February 9
Namma Metro to implement annual automatic fare revision with hikes ranging from Re 1 to Rs 5.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced an increase in Namma Metro fares, which will come into effect from February 9, 2026. The revision is part of an annual automatic fare adjustment system approved under existing metro regulations.
According to BMRCL, the fare hike will range between 4 per cent and 10 per cent, depending on the distance travelled. In absolute terms, ticket prices will increase by Re 1 to Rs 5.
The corporation said the revision is being implemented based on the recommendations of the First Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), which was constituted under the Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002. The committee had noted that a delay of over seven years in revising fares, along with the reduction of fare zones from 29 to 10, had earlier resulted in an average fare increase of more than 51 per cent.
To prevent such sharp hikes in the future, the FFC recommended a transparent system of annual fare revision. Under this mechanism, fares are to be revised every year based on operating and maintenance costs or capped at 5 per cent annually, whichever is lower, with amounts rounded off to the nearest rupee.
BMRCL explained that for the current revision, audited financial data for 2024–25 showed a cost increase of 10.20 per cent compared to the previous year. However, in line with the committee’s recommendations, the fare hike has been limited to 5 per cent.
The corporation also clarified that all existing commuter-friendly discounts will continue. Smart card and NCMC users will receive a 5 per cent discount during peak hours, 10 per cent during non-peak hours, and 10 per cent on Sundays and three designated national holidays. The same 5 per cent annual increase will apply to tourist cards and group tickets as well.
BMRCL said the annual fare revision system is aimed at ensuring the financial sustainability of metro operations and maintaining reliable services, while protecting commuters from sudden and steep fare increases.
The metro operator had faced criticism last year after implementing a significant fare hike, which led to public backlash.
