Bengaluru: In a shocking development that has tainted the image of law enforcement, 11 police personnel, including an Inspector, have been suspended in Bengaluru for allegedly collaborating with drug traffickers in exchange for monthly commissions.

The suspended officers include Inspector T. Manjna of Chamarajpet Police Station, along with 10 constables from Chamarajpet and Jayanagar police stations. According to preliminary findings, these officers were allegedly receiving Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh per month from drug dealers for providing protection and facilitating the drug trade.

How the Nexus Was Exposed

The scandal came to light after RR Nagar Police recently busted a major Tydol drug racket, arresting six individuals: Salman alias Papa, Salman alias Poot, Niaz, Nawaz, and Reshma. The raid led to the seizure of over 1,000 Tydol pills—a potent painkiller often abused as a narcotic—and Rs 4 lakh in cash.

During interrogation, the arrested suspects revealed their links with local police, stating that certain officers not only turned a blind eye to their operations but also advised them on how to expand the drug business without getting caught.

Following this revelation, ECP Chandan conducted a detailed investigation. Based on the report, DCP Girish recommended disciplinary action. Subsequently, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh issued orders for the immediate suspension of all 11 accused officials.

Wider Network Under the Scanner

Authorities have indicated that the scope of this illegal network might extend beyond Chamarajpet and Jayanagar. “We suspect that officers from other police stations may also be involved. A larger investigation is currently underway,” a senior official confirmed.

This incident has raised serious concerns about internal corruption and the integrity of anti-drug enforcement in the city.
