Lucknow: Samajwadi Party’s national general secretary and former cabinet minister Azam Khan has been acquitted in the controversial statement case registered at Azam Nagar police station. The verdict was delivered on Friday by the MP/MLA Magistrate Court, triggering celebrations among his supporters across Uttar Pradesh.

The case stemmed from a remark Khan made during a private TV interview about the daughters of former Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh. Singh had filed a complaint in Lucknow, calling the statement highly objectionable. Because the interview was recorded inside the Jauhar University campus, the case was later transferred to the Azam Nagar police station in Rampur.

After completing its investigation, the police filed a chargesheet, and the trial was conducted in the special MP/MLA court. Final arguments concluded on Tuesday, and the judgment was reserved for November 28. The court had also directed Khan to appear in person.

On Friday, the court announced its decision, acquitting Azam Khan of all charges—a ruling seen as a significant legal victory for the SP leader.

Following the verdict, Samajwadi Party workers celebrated enthusiastically. It is worth noting that Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam were recently convicted in a dual PAN card case by a Rampur court and are currently in jail.
