Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha: Key Roads Closed as Leaders Gather

Doha is hosting an extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday, bringing together leaders from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Ahead of the gathering, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior announced temporary road closures in the capital.
Authorities said three main routes will remain closed from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm:
- Ras Bu Abboud Road, from Hamad International Airport Street exit to Al-Sharq Intersection
- C-Ring Road, from Airport Park Street exit to Al-Sharq Intersection
- Corniche Road, from Al-Sharq Intersection to Dafna Intersection
The summit was called in response to last week’s Israeli strike in Qatar that targeted Hamas members. A draft resolution prepared by foreign ministers condemned the attack, describing it as a destabilizing escalation, and rejected what it called Israel’s attempts to “impose a new reality in the region.”
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the gathering sends a clear message: “Qatar is not alone, and Arab and Islamic states stand by it.”
Qatar has played a central role as a mediator in efforts to end the ongoing Gaza war, now approaching two years. It accused Israel of undermining peace efforts and labeled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies as “state terrorism.” A member of Qatar’s internal security forces was among those killed in the recent strike.
Regional states have voiced support for Doha. The UAE summoned Israel’s deputy ambassador on Friday over the attack and Netanyahu’s remarks, calling them hostile. Abu Dhabi also stressed that Qatar’s stability is an inseparable part of the security of all Gulf Cooperation Council members, including Saudi Arabia.
