All 39 Kannadigas Stranded in Nepal Safe, Confirms CM Siddaramaiah

All 39 people from Karnataka who were stranded in Nepal due to ongoing protests have been confirmed safe, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday. The state government is actively working with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure their safe return.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Chief Secretary of Karnataka, Shalini Rajneesh, and the Resident Commissioner at Karnataka Bhavan in Delhi are in constant touch with the stranded individuals through dedicated teams.
The situation in Nepal has become tense following widespread protests led by students and youth. The demonstrations initially began as a reaction to a government-imposed social media ban but have now grown into a broader movement demanding reforms. In response to escalating violence, including vandalism and arson, the Nepal Army has taken control of law and order and imposed a nationwide curfew.
“Given the unstable situation, the Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary to take immediate steps to bring back the stranded Kannadigas from Kathmandu airport,” the CMO said.
The Chief Secretary has already initiated discussions with concerned authorities and is taking necessary actions to coordinate the evacuation.
The Nepal Army, in an official statement, noted that certain groups have misused the protests to carry out criminal activities. The curfew, initially imposed on Wednesday, is expected to remain in force until 6 a.m. Thursday, with further extensions depending on the evolving situation.
Army officials have allowed only essential service vehicles—such as ambulances, hearses, fire brigades, and vehicles for health and sanitation workers—to operate during the curfew. Citizens have been asked to cooperate with local security forces.
Security officials also warned that anyone involved in violence, looting, or attacks under the guise of protest will face strict legal action.
The state government has assured the families of those stranded that every effort is being made for their safe and swift return.
