Air India Bus Catches Fire at Delhi Airport, No Casualties Reported
Emergency teams quickly doused flames at Terminal 3 as the empty vehicle burned near a parked aircraft, with airport operations continuing normally.
A bus operated by Air India’s ground-handling partner caught fire at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, though airport authorities confirmed that operations remained unaffected.
The incident occurred around noon near Bay 32 at Terminal 3, where the bus was parked not far from an aircraft. The vehicle, operated by AI SATS a ground-handling service provider for Air India was stationary and completely empty at the time of the fire.
Airport emergency response teams acted swiftly to contain the situation. The Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team arrived at the scene immediately and managed to extinguish the flames within minutes, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby areas or aircraft.
Delhi Airport addressed the incident in a statement posted on social media platform X, describing it as an isolated occurrence. “Our expert ARFF team on ground immediately swung into action and extinguished the fire within a couple of minutes,” the airport authorities said.
Officials emphasized that no passengers were on board the bus when it caught fire, and no injuries or casualties were reported. The quick response ensured that all airport operations, including flight schedules, continued without disruption.
“Safety of our passengers and staff remains paramount to us,” Delhi Airport stated, reassuring travelers that the situation was fully under control.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, though authorities have not released further details about what may have triggered the blaze.
