Adityanath Raises ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Land Jihad’ Claims While Campaigning in Assam
UP Chief Minister links infiltration and demographic concerns to upcoming Assam elections

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sparked fresh political debate during his campaign in Assam by raising issues such as “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and illegal infiltration ahead of the state elections.
Addressing rallies in Barpeta and Barchalla, Adityanath said that the BJP led NDA alliance is the only political force capable of tackling these challenges. He stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government aims to ensure both development and the protection of Assam’s cultural identity.
He emphasized that preventing illegal infiltration and maintaining what he described as demographic balance are key priorities for the alliance.
During his speeches, Adityanath strongly criticised opposition parties, particularly the Indian National Congress and the All India United Democratic Front. He alleged that their past governance failed to address issues such as unrest and demographic shifts, and claimed their policies had negatively affected the state’s social fabric.
He further suggested that the two parties have worked in alignment in ways that could impact Assam’s identity, adding that such outcomes would not occur if the NDA remains in power.
Highlighting the BJP’s “double engine government” approach, Adityanath said coordination between the central and state governments has driven development in BJP ruled states. He pointed to infrastructure growth in Assam under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as an example.
He also referred to projects aimed at preserving cultural heritage, including the development of the Kamakhya Temple corridor and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Assam is set to vote on April 9 across all 126 constituencies, with results scheduled to be declared on May 4.
