6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Western Turkey, No Casualties Reported

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck the Sindirgi district in Balikesir province, located in western Turkey, on the evening of August 10. According to the Turkish Disaster Management Agency, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 11 kilometers. People across several cities in the western region—including major urban centers like Istanbul and Izmir—felt the shaking.
Thankfully, authorities have confirmed that there have been no casualties or significant property damage following the tremor. Residents in the affected areas remain alert but safe.
This recent earthquake brings back memories of the tragic events two years ago when two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 struck the Kahramanmaras province. Those devastating quakes affected 11 provinces and resulted in over 53,000 deaths and approximately 107,000 injuries. The disasters had a severe impact on the lives of around 14 million people across Turkey.
At present, emergency teams are monitoring the situation closely to provide assistance and ensure public safety.
