13 Killed, 22 Injured in Andhra Pradesh Bus Fire After Collision with Tipper
Private travel bus bursts into flames after early morning crash near Rayavaram; investigation underway

At least 13 people lost their lives and 22 others were injured after a private travel bus collided with a tipper truck and caught fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district on Thursday morning.
The accident took place near Rayavaram between 5:30 am and 6:00 am when the bus, carrying 35 passengers, was traveling from Jagtiyal in Telangana to Kaligiri in Nellore district. According to officials, the bus reportedly veered into the opposite lane before crashing into the truck.
The impact of the collision was severe, overturning the tipper and completely damaging the front portion of the bus. Authorities said the bus hit the truck’s diesel tank, which immediately triggered a massive fire, trapping several passengers inside.
Initial reports had suggested 14 deaths, but an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office later confirmed that 13 people had died. Among the injured, three are said to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
The bus driver reportedly told officials that the steering wheel became stuck just before the crash. Police are currently investigating this claim as part of a broader probe into the incident.
Rescue operations were launched immediately, and a command and control center has been set up at the Markapuram deputy collector’s office to assist victims’ families and coordinate relief efforts.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He reviewed the situation with senior officials through a teleconference and directed them to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured. He also announced compensation for the families of those who died and for those injured in the accident.
An official investigation has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the crash.
